THE DATA SALES STORY BEGINS

After a successful career at IBM, Ron Breckner decides to venture out on his own. He launches a computer brokerage firm from his humble home office in suburban Minneapolis.

A NEW BUILDING ENABLES EVOLUTION

Data Sales buys its first office and warehouse building, accommodating the company’s transition from being a broker to being a dealer, offering a wider selection of services and greater stock of inventory.

EQUIPMENT LEASING BEGINS

Now the largest segment of the business, Data Sales first offered equipment leases in 1979. This was also the year that the first building blocks of the custom, specialized business software system were established. Today, this proprietary software is key to serving the needs of Data Sales customers.

THE NEXT GENERATION JOINS

The next generation of family joins Data Sales, ensuring continuity and stability for years to come.

CUSTOMER DEMAND LEADS TO EXPANSION

With customer demand rising across the country, Data Sales expands its physical footprint into Scottsdale, Arizona, with an office, warehouse and expanded trucking fleet.

FLAGSHIP MINNESOTA LOCATION IS BUILT

Still the headquarters today, this custom-designed building near the I-35W corridor in Burnsville, Minnesota, just south of Minneapolis, offers 180,000 sq. ft. of office and warehouse space, including ample room for technology services.

ASSET-BACKED LEASING BECOMES THE NEW STANDARD

At this pivotal moment in its history, Data Sales recognizes extraordinary new opportunities to help fast-growing startups and emerging companies obtain capital for IT equipment, including storage and cloud hosting products, and decides to shift its focus from traditional leasing to asset-backed financing.

CANADIAN SUBSIDIARY OPENS

Customer demand prompts international expansion, enabling Data Sales  to meet the custom leasing needs of small, fast-growing companies across Canada from its Toronto office.

DATA SALES EXPANDS TO THE NETHERLANDS

Driven by customers’ needs, the company expands internationally again, this time to Amsterdam, where Data Sales Company of the Netherlands B.V. can offer leasing services to U.S. companies doing business in the Netherlands as well as to companies organized under a B.V.

 

THE THIRD GENERATION JOINS

As Data Sales celebrates 40 years, the third generation of family members begins to bring their own skills to Data Sales, ushering the company into a continuing era of longevity combined with innovation.

AI RISES

In another pivotal time for the business, Data Sales is able to capitalize on well-positioned partnerships to meet the rapidly growing needs of AI cloud providers and startups.

DATA SALES CELEBRATES 50 YEARS

On May 1, 2023, the company completes its 50th year in business. At this milestone, Data Sales celebrates its history and looks ahead to the future. With second and third generation family members active in the business, ongoing innovation and strong partnerships, Data Sales is poised for continued growth.

Expert in-house technology services, including asset disposal and data destruction, are available to any business, while complementing and offering additional value to our lease partners. Our wide range of capabilities, including door-to-door transportation by company drivers and our own fleet of trucks, allows us to provide the single chain of custody that is especially important for maximizing security and peace of mind.
